Artist Statement Art has been a constant companion in my life since 2009—a language through which I explore memory, identity, resilience, and hope. Born in Cameroon, I draw inspiration from the people, stories, colors, and quiet strength that shaped my early years. Although my artistic journey began with drawing and painting, my work has evolved into a mixed-media practice that combines acrylic paint and yarn on canvas. Through texture, movement, and color, I seek to create works that invite reflection beyond what is immediately visible. Yarn has become an essential part of my visual language. Its ability to bend, connect, layer, and travel across the surface mirrors the human experience itself—our relationships, histories, struggles, and resilience. Combined with paint, it allows me to build surfaces that are both tactile and emotional, where stories emerge through texture as much as through imagery. My recent body of work, Resilience, explores themes of endurance, transformation, community, and belonging. Inspired by personal experiences and observations from Africa and beyond, each piece examines how individuals and communities carry hope through challenge and change. Circular forms, interconnected lines, and layered textures often appear throughout the collection, symbolizing continuity, connection, and the unseen threads that bind us together. Rather than offering definitive answers, I hope my work creates space for contemplation.
