Layers of Home is a celebration of color, pattern, and the visual richness I have always associated with African textiles.
Organized into four horizontal rows, the composition brings together different yarn patterns, each with its own rhythm and personality. One pattern gives way to another, creating layers of color and movement across the canvas.
The work was originally inspired by the way African fabrics can be layered, combined, and worn—different patterns existing confidently beside one another without losing their individual character. Through yarn, I wanted to translate that same sense of abundance and visual rhythm onto the canvas.
For me, color has always carried energy. Here, it is unapologetically joyful.
Layers of Home celebrates the beauty that can emerge when pattern meets pattern, color meets color, and individual elements come together to create something richer than any one of them could be alone.
