About Simone Talla

An Artist's Journey Through Color, Texture, and Expression

I am Simone Talla, a Cameroonian-born contemporary artist whose work explores identity, emotion, cultural heritage, and the complexity of the human experience.

My relationship with art began in 2009, driven by a curiosity about the world around me and a desire to express what words sometimes cannot. What started with drawing gradually developed into a deeper exploration of painting, texture, color, and mixed media.

My Artistic Journey

Growing up in Cameroon gave me a connection to a world rich in culture, traditions, colors, and stories. Those early experiences remain part of who I am, even as my artistic expression continues to evolve.

After moving to the United States, I encountered new artistic influences and opportunities to experiment. The works of Claude Monet and Gerhard Richter, along with my studies at Art House 23 under JoAnn Gilles, encouraged me to explore painting beyond traditional representation.

Over time, I became increasingly interested in the relationship between materials, movement, and emotion. I began experimenting with palette knives, acrylic paint, dripping techniques, and yarn, discovering how texture could become as expressive as color itself.

My Creative Practice

I approach art with curiosity rather than a fixed set of rules.

Some of my paintings begin with an emotion. Others emerge from an observation, a memory, or simply the desire to experiment with a material or technique.

Color plays an important role in my work, but so does texture. Through layers of acrylic, carefully arranged yarn, and expressive marks, I explore the relationship between what we see and what we feel.

My work often reflects themes of identity, resilience, inclusion, emotional burdens, and the experiences that connect us as human beings.

I am drawn to the idea that a painting doesn't have to communicate one fixed meaning. Each viewer brings their own experiences, memories, and emotions to the work, discovering something that may be entirely different from what I initially intended.

That exchange between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer is one of the things I find most beautiful about creating.

Culture, Heritage, and Discovery

As my artistic journey continues, I find myself increasingly drawn to the history and artistic traditions of Africa, particularly Cameroon, the country of my birth.

I am interested in the stories preserved through objects, symbols, textiles, and artistic practices passed down through generations.

This curiosity is opening new directions in my work, encouraging me to experiment with different approaches while exploring the connections between cultural heritage and contemporary expression.

For me, art is also a way of learning, asking questions, and rediscovering the stories that shape our identities.

Beyond the Canvas

I believe art should invite curiosity, encourage reflection, and create meaningful connections.

Through Simone Canvas, I share my original paintings, creative experiments, and the stories behind my work. Each piece represents a moment of exploration, whether it is inspired by personal experiences, human emotions, cultural history, or the simple joy of creating.

My practice continues to grow and change, and I welcome that evolution.

Art, to me, is not about arriving at a final destination. It is about remaining curious, embracing discovery, and allowing each creation to lead to something new.

Thank you for being part of my artistic journey.
