Art That Tells a Story
Meet Simone Talla
I am a Cameroonian-born contemporary artist whose work explores identity, emotion, cultural heritage, and the human experience.
My artistic journey is rooted in curiosity and experimentation. Through bold colors, expressive textures, and an evolving combination of materials and techniques, I create artwork that invites viewers to look beyond the surface and discover their own meaning.
Inspired by personal experiences, the world around me, and the rich cultural heritage of Africa, my work continues to evolve as I explore new ways of telling stories through art.
Welcome to Simone Canvas, where every piece carries a story, an emotion, or a moment worth exploring.

Room for All is a reflection on inclusion, belonging, and the beauty of difference.
The canvas is covered entirely in yarn, built slowly over weeks through hundreds of small, intentional movements. Across its surface, circles of different sizes emerge in the colors of the rainbow. Each occupies its own space. No two need to be the same in order to belong to the whole.
For me, the circles represent people—the different identities, experiences, cultures, perspectives, and ways of being that make up our communities. Their differences are not something to overcome; they are what give the composition its life.
There is no single color at the center and no circle that defines what the others should become. Each is allowed to exist as itself while remaining connected to something larger.
Room for All imagines inclusion not simply as being invited into an existing space, but as creating a world where everyone was always meant to belong.

Layers of Home is a celebration of color, pattern, and the visual richness I have always associated with African textiles.
Organized into four horizontal rows, the composition brings together different yarn patterns, each with its own rhythm and personality. One pattern gives way to another, creating layers of color and movement across the canvas.
The work was originally inspired by the way African fabrics can be layered, combined, and worn—different patterns existing confidently beside one another without losing their individual character. Through yarn, I wanted to translate that same sense of abundance and visual rhythm onto the canvas.
For me, color has always carried energy. Here, it is unapologetically joyful.
Layers of Home celebrates the beauty that can emerge when pattern meets pattern, color meets color, and individual elements come together to create something richer than any one of them could be alone.

Under Her Umbrella is inspired by the women and young people I observed across Africa earning a living along roadsides and in open-air markets—selling fruit and other goods beneath umbrellas, day after day, regardless of the weather.
In this work, the umbrella becomes more than shelter. It protects what provides food, income, independence, and survival. Beneath it sits a livelihood.
Most of the composition is rendered in white yarn, while color emerges only in the lower portion where the umbrella and fruit appear. The contrast draws attention to this small but vital space—a place of work, persistence, and possibility.
There is resilience in showing up every day. There is dignity in creating a livelihood with what is available. And behind something as ordinary as an umbrella can exist an entire family's security, hopes, and future.
Under Her Umbrella honors the quiet determination of those who continue to work, provide, and persevere, whatever the conditions.
